At CCSS students have the opportunity to undertake a range of vocational pathways which may lead them onto further education, traineeships, apprenticeships or employment. These courses enable students to gain dual SACE and TAFE qualifications while providing them with the necessary information to make choices about a range of vocations.
Students can select from 42 different VET courses which are provided through the East Adelaide Schools Consortium (EASC), of which CCSS is a partner. Thursday is the designated day for students across the eastern suburbs to participate in VET courses. A number of these courses are delivered at CCSS, with the remainder at the other schools, TAFE institutes or private providers within the EASC.
Students who have a desire to work in the trade areas can also participate in our Engineering Pathway Program (EPP). A separate link is provided to this program on this website.
Alternatively, competencies from certificates offered by TAFE are embedded in a range of our subjects. Students who successfully meet the competencies will receive a statement from TAFE, listing the individual competencies.
Attached to VET courses is the opportunity for student to participate in a Work Placement. This will involve students being placed in a work situation where they will receive on-the-job training from the supervisor. Students will also be provided with a detailed logbook for the employer to complete as students become competent in specific tasks. This logbook will prove a valuable tool for students to use to show employers or training providers to help gain placements. A Work Placement is also often valuable for a student to help decide if the vocation they have chosen is what they really want to do
 | EASC VET Courses | |
Through the EASC, CCSS has established links with other Eastern Adelaide schools, TAFE institutes and other providers to enable students to undertake a wide variety of VET courses. Generally, this involves the student attending TAFE/ another school/ another location fro 1 day per week, with 4 days at school. Students have found this situation both an enjoyable and valuable experience as it introduces them to a new study environment and helps to make the transition from school to further study a much easier process.
Students receive credit towards their SACE depending on the number of hours completed within the course, as well as competencies towards Certificate courses. The courses would suit students in Year 11 & 12. The list of courses offered is steadily increasing and may vary from year to year depending on availability, student numbers and cost.

 | Hospitality Pathway | |
The Hospitality pathway at CCSS was established in 2005. In 2007 a commercial kitchen has been built to enable hospitality students to complete their practical training on site. Students work towards gaining competencies in Certificate I and II in Kitchen Operations. This is a full year course, which runs on Thursdays. Over the year the students will undertake 80 hours of Work Placement and a variety of functions including the end of year Graduation Dinner, which in the past has seen over 130 people attend.
CCSS is very fortunate to have developed a working relationship with Tom Hannah and the kitchen staff at The Tap Inn Hotel, Rundle Street, Kent Town. Each year Tom mentors the group and provides students with the opportunity to complete a Work Placement in the kitchen. In past years students have been selected to accompany a team of Tap Inn staff to the Clare Gourmet Weekend and McLaren Vale Sea and Vines Festival. In 2006 one of the students who completed this course received a scholarship into the International College of Hotel Management and a National VET Student Award.
Some of the Hospitality competencies match the Tourism competencies and a student who has completed these can receive credit towards their Tourism Certificate.
 | Tourism Pathway | |
Tourism is offered in Year 11 & 12. The content of the subject will provide students with a background in Tourism and will enable them to make informed career choices in this area.
Students who complete their SACE can apply to study the Advanced Tourism Diploma offered at TAFE. Students who have studied Tourism at school will have an advantage in gaining selection for the TAFE course.
Some of the Hospitality competencies match the Tourism competencies and a student who has completed these can receive credit towards their Tourism Certificate.
 | Care and Health Industry Pathways | |
2007 has seen the development of the VET course Certificate II Community Services (Children?s Services) in partnership with Gilles Plains TAFE. Students complete the course at CCSS and at Gilles Plains TAFE. Students gain competencies that would enable them to work in the Child Care Industry or continue studying at TAFE or University.
A Care and Health Industry Pathway Program (CHIPP) is currently in development with key local industry groups.
 | Multimedia Pathway | |
We now have facilities to offer national competencies from the Multimedia Certificate 2(Arts). Students who follow the multimedia pathway from year 11 through year 12 will have the opportunity to obtain national competencies embedded in Broadcasting & Multimedia SACE Stage 1 & 2.
 | Engineering Pathway | |
This program enables capable students to complete their SACE while preparing them for entry into the trades area. Successful students may reduce the time required to complete their trade certificate by about twelve months, particularly in metals machining and fabrication and in the electrical areas.
The program provides students with appropriate knowledge, skills and experience in industry in work placements. Skills learnt include metal machining and welding, computer aided drafting, computer controlled machining, small engines and pneumatics.
