Focus Room Policy And Procedures

Introduction

The aim is to support students and manage behaviour. It is expected that students will make some mistakes and will need support to change behaviours. Support includes counselling, learning new strategies to deal with difficult situations and learning to stop some behaviours. Lesson checks are used to help students focus on new learning and behaviour goals.

The relationship between detentions, Saturday School and Suspension are clarified in this policy and procedures document. The GIHS student behaviour policy is the over-arching policy.

Detentions are given to students to notify persistent unacceptable behaviour. Students go to the Focus Room to reflect on their behaviour and the situation. This allows the remainder of the class to continue with the lesson without interruption.
